Life Stories Of American Presidents

When you are looking for history, you go with Dell.

In a book cover dated November, 1957, they covered the Life Stories Of American Presidents, from George Washington to Dwight D. Eisenhower, and all in between, like Abraham Lincoln...with interior art by John Buscema.

A little history, for President's Day.

Mystery Unknown President

An alien is found to be suffering delusions....he thinks there is a planet called Earth, and that that planet has a president....

...but which president?

That depends on what decade you read the tale.

1950s

In Mystery In Space #30 (February-March, 1956), with a story by Otto Binder, Carmine Infantino and Joe Giella (with a cover by Gil Kane), the patient alien has delusions of Earth, under a President Izen-Hower (Dwight D. Eisenhower).

Such is the first case of The Impossible World Named Earth!

1970s

When the tale by Binder, Infantino and Giella was reprinted in From Beyond The Unknown #17 (June-July, 1972) with a cover by Murphy Anderson, the delusional alien got to see visions of Nee-Xon (because Richard Nixon was now President, and DC, trying to hide their reprints, changed to the current President).

Making this a second case of The Impossible World Named Earth!

Holy Mount Rushmore, Batman

Batman and Robin have to stop Joker's nefarious scheme this President's Day...to add his own face to the four Presidents (George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln and Teddy Roosevelt) of Mount Rushmore!

This art first greeted viewers in the 1977 Super DC Calendar for February, and is by Ernie Chua and Frank Giacoia.

Strange Adventures Of Our Presidents

Remember when George Washington stopped the Civil War, or Abraham Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation in 1789?

No?  Means you got a better education than you think, as actors looking like Washington and Lincoln proposed this as an interesting "what if?" with Washington and Lincoln switching places as Presidents in "Assignment In Eternity" from Strange Adventures #83 (August, 1957) by Otto Binder, Sid Greene and Joe Giella, under a Gil Kane cover  Odder still, that just starts the story of time traveling adventure, involving the teacher at the board....pretty high concept for 6 pages!

Better still, this story was reprinted in Strange Adventures #231 (July-August, 1971) under a Sid Greene cover, with reprints of stories of Adam Strange, the Atomic Knights...

...and flying gorillas!

You can also find the presidential tale in Showcase Presents: Strange Adventures Volume #2, which came out in 2013....but, the tale is reprinted in black and white.
