Covering Perez Legion Of Super-Heroes

Looking back to the past, and the future, with the George Perez covers for the Legion of the Super-Heroes from the 1980s.

Incredible covers (but, sadly only the covers), during an odd run, while the 30th Century teen heroes deal with the mystery of Reflecto, and the return of Superboy.

Legion of Super-Heroes #277 and #278 (July and August, 1981)

.

Legion of Super-Heroes #279 and #280 (September and October, 1981)

.

Legion of Super-Heroes #281 (November, 1981)

George did a special file in a Best of DC digest (more on this sometime in the future), the Legion was well represented in the Crisis On Infinite Earths, and finally getting close to a Legion book with the mini-series, Final Crisis: Legion Of 3 Worlds.

Celebrating Artist Sal Buscema

All set to celebrate the birthday of artist Sal Buscema (January 26, 1936), thinking about his nearly 60 issue run on Rom in the 1970s and 1980s....

...only to find that Sal only did one cover for that series (inked by Al Milgrom).

ONE.

Still, enjoy Rom, the Spaceknight giving it to the invading, shape-shifting Dire Wraths on this cover, and enjoy these two Sal Buscema covers as a bonus to anyone who clicked here to celebrate Sal's birthday.

Celebrating Star Artist Greg Hildebrandt

Celebrating the work of artist Greg Hildebrandt on his birthday (January 23, 1939) with this recent work of his...

..the cover for Star Trek: Year Five #1 (April, 2019) for IDW, featuring Kirk, Spock and the rest of the original crew of the Enterprise...

..all ready to go where no man has gone before.

This cover echoes a movie poster Greg did with his brother, Tim (January 23, 1939 - June 11, 2006) a long, long time ago....and we remember him this day as well.

Celebrating Artist Keith Pollard

Wishing the best birthday to artist Keith Pollard (January 20, 1950), who, along with Green Lantern, spent some time in space in the 1980s, as these covers to Keith's run on the title show.

Green Lantern #157 and #158 (October and November, 1982)

Green Lantern #159 and #160 (December and January, 1982 and 1983)

Green Lantern #161 and #162 (February and March, 1983)

#161 inked by Mike DeCarlo

Green Lantern #163 and #164 (April and May, 1983)

#163 inked by Rick Hoberg

An odd time for Hal Jordan, as the Guardians exiled him from Earth, to better take care of the rest of Space Sector 2814, but at least for some of the run, Green Lantern had Dorine for company as Hal faced Hector Hammond, the Headmen and Evil Star.  Plus, the issues had back ups, with tales of the Green Lantern Corps (allowing Keith the ability to do Hal's stories in these issues).

Superboy And The Legion Of Super-Heroes #249 and #250 (March and April, 1979)

Superboy And The Legion Of Super-Heroes #251 (May, 1979)

See The Invisible Man

Technically, if the formula works, you can't see the Invisible Man.

But, after H. G. Wells wrote the novel, after Claude Rains played him in the movie....there was the Classics Illustrated comic (#153 in November, 1959) with a cover painted by Geoffrey Biggs, and interior art by Norman Nodel, detailing the problems humans have with science gone wild.

Not the last time Wells' work would be adapted, as Marvel did it as well!

Celebrating Artist Boris Vallejo

Celebrating the career of noted fantasy artist, Boris Vallejo on his birthday (January 8, 1941) with some rarely looked at covers from the era of the Marvel magazines....the first four issues of Tales Of The Zombie featuring Simon Garth.

Tales of the Zombie #1 and #2 (October, 1973)

.

Tales of the Zombie #3 and #4 (January and March, 1974)

.

Boris also did other Marvel magazine covers, such as Frankenstein's Monster for Monsters Unleashed, as well as Savage Tales, and his work is incredible to behold.

Welcome To The Future

Here we are in 2023!

At one point, considered the future...

...and to welcome you to this future is Superboy and the Legion Of Super-Heroes, in this bit from the Super DC Calendar of 1976 by Neal Adams and Dick Giordano in their finest 1970s attire (or is that 2970s attire?)!

Dracula's New Year

Dracula rings in the new year in Tomb Of Dracula #43 (April, 1976) under this cover by Bernie Wrightson

This issue by Marv Wolfman, Gene Colan and Tom Palmer features "Paul Butterworth -- Night-Stalker!"...a reporter that ends up covering tales with a supernatural bend (based on Kolchak: The Night Stalker).

Paul gets involved in battling Dracula, even capturing pictures of him during the battle, which would be proof to his editor, Lamenzo, that vampires exist...if not for forgetting the fact that vampires don't photograph!
