Remembering master artist Alex Toth on his birthday (June 25, 1928 - May 27, 2006), with a look at his covers to Big Town.

Big Town was a popular radio and TV series, that lasted 50 issues in the 1950s, following the adventures of ace newsman Steve Wilson, as he fought crimes and deadlines, with the help of star reporter Lorelei Kilbourne, who served as his conscious.

Celebrating Actor Bruce Campbell

Celebrating the birthday of actor/filmmaker Bruce Campbell (June 22, 1958) with a quick look at four comics featuring Ash Williams (who came out of the Evil Dead/Army Of Darkness movies), here teamed with Darkman (another of Sam Raimi's movie anti-heroes).  

This four issue mini-series teamed Ash Williams with Dr. Peyton Wilder face the hordes of undead, all under covers by comic legend, George Perez!

Happy Fathers Day Superboy

It can be a little rough for anyone that's lost a father on Father's Day, and Superboy is no exception, wanting to see dad one more time.

But, he had two occasions where the ghost of Jor-El visited him (sadly, not a real ghost, but trickery by dastardly villains, in Superboy #20 of June-July, 1962 by with cover by Win Mortimer, and this villain in Superboy #78 of January, 1960, with cover by Curt Swan and Stan Kaye).

Remembering Artist Neal Adams

Remembering artist Neal Adams on his birthday (June 15, 1941 - April 28, 2022) with a couple of his most famous covers from his Green Lantern run with Denny O'Neil, Green Lantern #85 and #86, (August-September and October-November, 1971), with Green Arrow being confronted with his ward's drug problem..  

This was a big moment, not only for Speedy, but for comics in general, changing the dynamic of the kid partner forever...  

...these stories have been reprinted many times, with Neal providing even more raw emotion on the covers, but provided a wonderful window into the times they were made. 

Remembering Artist George Perez Batman

Remembering artist George Perez (June 9, 1954 - May 6, 2022) with a character he didn't work with, and one that he did incredible work with.

While George Perez only did a few pages of interior work on Batman #400 (incredible, and likely to receive coverage at some point), he did get to do some exemplary Batman covers related to Dick Grayson (covering his time as Robin in "Year Three", as well as Nightwing, and introducing Tim Drake to readers in the expanded "A Lonely Place Of Dying" working in New Titans issues, which George did draw).

Switching To Adventure Comics

Before an alien ever helped Metropolis, or a bat protected Gotham, there were comics.  But, even the stalwart Adventure Comics was not that to begin with.

Adventure Comics started as New Comics in December, 1935, going under that title until New Comics #14 (March, 1937, though the cover said New Adventure), then being New Adventure Comics from #15 to #31, before settling on Adventure Comics with #32 (November, 1938), going from light comedy to kids adventures to full fledged adventures!

Along the way, it debuted series like Sandman, Hourman, Starman, the Legion of Super-Heroes, and carried Aquaman, Johnny Quick, Superboy, Bizarro, Supergirl, Zatanna, the JSA, Dial H for Hero and more! 

A fine title, loved by fans!  To give you an idea of how long this title was around, when #32 hit the stands, it was there with Action Comics #6 (so Superman and Lois were around, but not Luthor) and Detective Comics #21 (pre-dated Batman!).
