Valentine's Day With Harley Quinn

A happy Valentine's Day to all...

...but not so much for Harley Quinn, as seen on this Frank Cho cover to Harley Quinn #70 (April, 2020) with Harley not so happily chasing down cupid.

Valentine's Day With Superman And Wonder Woman

One of the odd things about DC's New 52 is that they went places fans thought of but weren't usually explored in regular comics before...like a Superman and Wonder Woman romance with Young Romance: The New 52 Valentine's Day Special #1 from April, 2013, with a cover by Kenneth Rocafort.

Now, Superman and Wonder Woman did have some team-up issues, and even approached this in an Action Comics Anniversary issue, but not like the New 52.

A Valentine Day Impulse

Happy Valentine's Day!

Bart Allen (Impulse) looks like he's having a happy one with Cissie King-Jones (Arrowette)....much to the concern of his friend, Carol Bucklen, in Impulse #59 (April, 2000), with cover by Ethan Van Sciver and Wayne Faucher.

 

Giant Young Love

Young Love #69 (August-September, 1968 with cover by Dick Giordano) was Young Love's one and only giant, squarebound issue (though the series did have 100 Page Spectaculars towards the end of its run), full of jealousy, rage, heartbreak, rage, loneliness and even love (all as it says on the cover)...all gathered from past issues of other romance comics!

Tears For A Dream/Heartbreak In Paradise

This cover of Heart Throbs #85 (August-September, 1963) is by John Romita, and actually features the Dream story reprinted in the giant, while the Paradise story was only inside Secret Hearts #91 (October, 1963), but the cover was also drawn by John Romita!

A Shoe For Cinderella/Moment Of Truth and Curtain For A Heart

John Romita provides the covers for both Secret Hearts #88 (June, 1963) and Falling In Love #54 (November, 1962), though A Shoe doesn't feature on the cover, nor Moment or Curtain on its either...but you can definitely see the Romita style on the women's faces!

To Hide From Love/Forgive Me, Forget Me

Arthur Peddy might have started the cover for Falling In Love #56 (January, 1963), with Romita finishes, but John Romita did all of Girls' Love Stories #74 (November, 1960), neither of which were the cover feature of the issue that they came from either!

Plus, the issue had "Mad Mad Modes For Moderns", with fashion art by Jay Scott Pike (creator of Dolphin), and could be considered one of the first dozen Super DC Giants (which oddly started with the number, S-13...and include volumes with Supergirl, Batman team ups, Jerry Lewis and even more romance comics for Valentine's Day!).

Happy Valentine's Day Betty And Veronica

An appropriate cover for a cold Valentine's Day....as Archie does double duty with Betty and Veronica in this cover from Archie's Girls Betty & Veronica #243 (March, 1976), where young Mr. Andrews takes advantage of the snow for a little Valentine's Day message for Betty Cooper in this cover by Dan DeCarlo!

Surprisingly, Marvel once celebrated Valentine's Day with its characters....back in April, 1997 with the Marvel Valentine Special!

Spidey & Mary Jane worked to help out a student in "My Fair Spidey" by Tom Peyer and Mark Buckingham.

Daredevil and Karen Page were working with a lady being abused by her boyfriend in "Love Hurts" by John Ostrander and Mary Mitchell.

Goddess Venus helped out a pair of aliens in "Atom-Age Amore" by Frank Strom and Dan DeCarlo.

Villain Absorbing Man got a Millie the Model doll for his girlfriend, Titania, in "The Greatest Gift!" by Tom DeFalco and Dan Lawlis.

Jean Grey reflects on her time with Cyclops away from the X-Men in "The Way!" by Tom DeFalco and Kyle Hotz.
