Celebrating 50 Years Of Wonder Woman

While Wonder Woman was around for more than 50 years, and there was an attempt at a Wonder Woman TV movie just before this, Wonder Woman as she looked in the comics first found its way onto the airwaves on ABC, with the telemovie The New Original Wonder Woman, staring Lynda Carter.

Set in World War II for the first season, the show then moved to the modern day (the 1970s) when it moved to CBS for its second and third seasons.

In 2015, DC gave us comics based on the TV show, with covers by Nicola Scott, with 4 Wonder Woman '77 Specials (and a little more....).

Valentine's Day With Superman And Wonder Woman

One of the odd things about DC's New 52 is that they went places fans thought of but weren't usually explored in regular comics before...like a Superman and Wonder Woman romance with Young Romance: The New 52 Valentine's Day Special #1 from April, 2013, with a cover by Kenneth Rocafort.

Now, Superman and Wonder Woman did have some team-up issues, and even approached this in an Action Comics Anniversary issue, but not like the New 52.

Covering Perez Wonder Woman

To be fair, this article is only going to cover the covers artist George Perez (June 9, 1954 to May 6, 2022) did pre-Crisis...but there were these two!

Wonder Woman #283 (September, 1981) and Wonder Woman #284 (October, 1981) were the two, and, along with featuring Wonder Woman's battles with the Red Dragon, they had the Earth-2 Huntress feature, which had her battle with the Earth-2 Joker and a team up with the grown up Robin!

True, Perez did more Wonder Woman art even before the events of the Crisis On Infinite Earths, such as her appearances in the Justice League Of America, or helping out Donna Troy in the New Teen Titans...

...face it, no one drew teams like George Perez!!!

Perez even drew a piece used on the interior cover of Wonder Woman #300 (presented here in color, from Wonder Woman's second series third issue, later recolored by Tom Smith), as well as featuring her in Crisis On Infinite Earths (featuring a variety of characters).

Of course, George's reboot of Wonder Woman is fondly remembered, and one day will get much more extensive coverage as well.

A Happy Mother's Day to all the mothers out there, and may your day not be as eventful as it was for the young Wonder Woman, who had to defend her mother, Queen Hippolyta, from the Sky Riders of Nebulosta in Wonder Woman #209 (December-January, 1973/1974) by Robert Kanigher, Ric Estrada and Vince Colletta (which was an Earth-1 version of the first Wonder Girl story from Wonder Woman #23 (May-June, 1947) by William Marston and H. G. Peter.
