Quantum Leap Year

With this being a Leap Year, time to celebrate Superman's birthday (which is February 29th)...but, want to also celebrate Quantum Leap, a show about Sam Beckett, who leaps into people who need help with the help of his hologram, Al Calavicci.

If only there was a way to do both....Great Krypton (or Oh, Boy!), there is!

In a story by Terry Collins and Rob Davis (with cover by C.W. Taylor) for Innovation's Quantum Leap #5 (May, 1992), Sam leaps into a mild mannered reporter (though Henry "Hank" Briscoe, not Clark Kent), who has to help a young girl become a scientist to help found his own time travel project!

The Quantum Leap comic lasted for 13 issues (and one Special Edition, from September, 1991 to August, 1993) in the 1990s, but disappeared as Innovation went out of business (as neither Superman nor Sam could save that company).

Celebrating Artist Curt Swan

Remembering artist Curt Swan on his birthday (February 17, 1920 - June 17, 1996) with these 1970s Batman covers to Batman #223 (July-August, 1970) and Batman #228 (January-February, 1971).

By the 1970s, Curt was more famous for drawing the Man of Steel, yet he did have a bit of history with Batman.

Back in the 1950s, Curt drew Batman, such as on these covers to Batman #120 (December, 1958) and Batman #122 (March, 1959).

Of course, later, in the 1960s, Curt drew Batman with his Worlds' Finest teammate for a while, including covers with Batman villains Clayface and Joker (as well as Brainiac and Bizarro), for World's Finest Comics #144 (September, 1966) and World's Finest Comics #156 (March, 1966).

If you need to see Curt drawing the Caped Kryptonian, check here!

Valentine's Day With Superman And Wonder Woman

One of the odd things about DC's New 52 is that they went places fans thought of but weren't usually explored in regular comics before...like a Superman and Wonder Woman romance with Young Romance: The New 52 Valentine's Day Special #1 from April, 2013, with a cover by Kenneth Rocafort.

Now, Superman and Wonder Woman did have some team-up issues, and even approached this in an Action Comics Anniversary issue, but not like the New 52.

First Football Romance

A long time ago, Harvey Comics put out romance comics, with First Romance being one of them, which lasted for 52 issues from August 1949 to November 1958.

Here, in First Romance #20 (February, 1953) with a cover likely by Al Avison, is the love triangle of Carol Emrick, Phil Taine and Roger Mayo, as these college students fell in love, first Carol and Roger, then Carol and Phil....but, when Carol finds out Phil cheated on her, she went back to Roger.

"We'll Never Meet Again" was the title for the two part story in two issues of Girls' Romances (#127 and #128 from September and October, 1967)...

In this special two part story, we meet Nurse Pat Tobin, who cares for wounded soldiers.  Pat seems to do too good a job, as she earns the ire of Captain Bill Mitchell, who accuses her of coddling his men. Later on leave in Japan, the two meet and fall in love.

But, as the second part of the story unfolds, Bill is sent into action and goes missing...with Pat left to wait on his return.
