Hope For The New Year With The Comico Christmas Special

A happy New Year to all!  Still feeling a little of the Christmas spirit as well, so a special treat, with the Comico Christmas Special #1 (December, 1988) with a cover by Dave Stevens.

All stories written by Doug Wheeler, with "Living For Christmas" art by Ken Holewczynski (where a man uses suspended animation to sleep through non-Christmas months), "Too Many Santas" with art by Bernie Mireault (with a boy trying to find out why there are Santas on every corner), "The Stiflemix Diaries" with art by Tim Sale (with the adventurers of the Noel Liberation Brigade, fighting to stop Christmas references when it isn't Christmas), "One Winter Day" with art by Bill Willingham and Chris Warner (dealing with snow shoveling during a heavy snowfall) and, referencing the cover, "Traditions Everlasting" with art by Steve Rude and Al Williamson (with aliens finding Christmas artifacts in a nuclear devastated world).

A More Fun New Year

May you have a Happy New Year, and celebrate today however you will...but don't get caught like Spike Spalding did on this cover to More Fun Comics #17 (January, 1937) by Vin Sullivan.

Spike was an ordinary kid of the time who got into extraordinary trouble, including being mistaken for the young king (Philip) of Patrania, leading to Spike being kidnapped by the evil Count Alex.

Spike appeared starting in New Fun #3 (April, 1935) up to More Fun Comics #30 (March-April, 1938), all predating the first appearance of Superman in Action Comics.

Dracula's New Year

Dracula rings in the new year in Tomb Of Dracula #43 (April, 1976) under this cover by Bernie Wrightson

This issue by Marv Wolfman, Gene Colan and Tom Palmer features "Paul Butterworth -- Night-Stalker!"...a reporter that ends up covering tales with a supernatural bend (based on Kolchak: The Night Stalker).

Paul gets involved in battling Dracula, even capturing pictures of him during the battle, which would be proof to his editor, Lamenzo, that vampires exist...if not for forgetting the fact that vampires don't photograph!

Celebrate New Year's With Archie And Jughead

Jughead should be warning Archie to be careful, lest Betty and Veronica find out what he's doing on New Year's Eve, as shown on this Dan DeCarlo/Rudy Lapick cover to Jughead With Archie #97 (March, 1990).

Happy New Year!
