To settle his own tax debt, Wally West goes to work for the I.R.S. in Flash #52 (July, 1991), by William Messner-Loebs, Greg LaRocque and Jose Marzan Jr., tackling the tough cases no other agent can handle.

 

Superman Pays His Taxes

In one of the stories of Superman #114 (July, 1957), under a cover by Al Plastino, is "Superman's Billion-Dollar Debt", by Otto Binder, Wayne Boring and Stan Kaye.

IRS Agent Jason Hawker comes after Superman for failure to pay his taxes, which Superman figures he doesn't owe, as he donates all his money to charity.  Hawker claims not so....and Superman tries to collect various treasures to pay his debt, failing as he does so.  But, there was a solution....Superman's dependents, which are all the inhabitants of Earth, who he has saved countless times.

Batman Pays His Taxes

Well, even millionaire Bruce Wayne had to pay taxes, and sometimes you just owe too much....

...okay, that really wasn't the focus of Batman #191 (May, 1967) with a cover by Carmine Infantino and Murphy Anderson.

The real story of "The Day Batman Sold Out" by John Broome, Sheldon Moldoff and Joe Giella, was that Batman's equipment was made radioactive by new villain, Ira Radon....and to save himself from that radiation, Batman had to sell off his stuff via the Wayne Foundation so he would not be exposed to it (it was small enough radiation dose that only Batman would be affected by it, as long as he maintained it all, and all together...).
